NEW YORK (AP) — The NFL and the players’ union have two new agreements to address player health in the areas of pain management/prescription medications http://www.bengalsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-michael-jordan-jersey , and behavior well-being. are designed to lead to advancement and understanding of dealing with pain and to improve potential treatments. The league and union also will add to programs already established in education, prevention, and overall behavioral health throughout the league.“I was hired two years ago and when I was hired I was asked about areas of concern,” said Dr. Allen Sills, the NFL’s medical chief. “And I said these were two areas I saw from my knowledge of someone taking care of athletes for over two decades. I felt a real need there.“We’ve been working together with the players’ union to come up with something that would work proactively for both. We have the same goal, to take care of the whole player and in a holistic way, and to focus on prevention.”Among the stipulations in the pain management area will be formation of a committee of medical experts appointed by the league and union that will establish uniform standards for club practices and policies in pain management and the use of prescription medication by players. The committee also will conduct research concerning pain management and alternative therapies. That committee will receive periodic reports from a newly developed prescription drug monitoring program that will monitor all prescriptions issued to NFL players by club physicians and unaffiliated physicians. Each NFL club must appoint and pay for a pain management specialist before next season. All this builds on the programs in place.“We’ve had an electronically submitted health record for each club in place for a number of years,” Sills said. “Medical providers enter the prescriptions they have given to the players. Periodically Greedy Williams Jersey , our medical advisory committee and the NFL Physicians Society would issue white paper guidelines around strategies. The important change here is obviously it creates a committee tasked with overseeing our educational efforts — the best practices around pain management.”All 32 teams now must retain by the start of training camp a behavioral health team clinician focused on supporting players’ emotional and mental health and well-being. The old bromide of “toughing it out” when someone has such issues has long been discarded, Sills said.“This is not novel to the NFL or to sports,” Sills added. “It applies across all levels of society at all age groups and walks of life, and we know these are issues we need to address.”While the NFL and NFLPA have had previous joint programs in these health areas, Sills and NFLPA President Eric Winston note these initiatives are a major step forward in medical care.“These agreements are positive developments for our membership as they will provide new and important resources to help players and their families,” Winston said. “Our union has always advocated for advancements in health and safety and we think this work with the NFL is another important step to improve care for NFL players.” KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — During pregame warmups, 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo wandered over to the spot near the 10-yard line in Arrowhead Stadium where last season came to a crashing end with a torn knee ligament.“Once I did that,” he said, “it was over with. Time to move on.”He did that quite well.Article continues below ...After a rusty preseason debut last week http://www.brownsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-sione-takitaki-jersey , Garoppolo was sharp and efficient in leading San Francisco to a 27-17 victory over the Chiefs on Saturday night. He was 14 of 20 for 188 yards and a touchdown while playing the entire first half, his nightmare Week 3 of last season becoming just a memory.“Leading up to it and everything, enough people talked about it. I definitely thought about it,” Garoppolo said. “But it’s good to get it out of the way, I think is the best way to put it.”Garoppolo led the 49ers deep into Kansas City territory four times, throwing a nice TD pass to Matt Breida and getting two field goals from Robbie Gould. The other drive ended on a failed fourth down.“Last week wasn’t nearly as bad as it looked, but it definitely looked that bad live,” 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said. “Today, everyone was on the same page a little bit better, moved the chains a couple of times and just got into a rhythm and start playing football.”Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes was just as good Sheldrick Redwine Jersey , going 8 of 10 for 126 yards. The highlight for him was a 62-yard catch-and-run to Damien Williams, who made the defensive end covering him look foolish.“To catch that ball and score that touchdown,” Mahomes said, “that explosiveness is always good.”Mahomes was so sharp in what was likely his final tuneup before the regular season that the league MVP even completed his first incompletion — it was just caught out of bounds. His only other misfire was a drop by backup tight end Blake Bell before coach Andy Reid gave Mahomes a visor to wear.“I just thought he’d had enough,” Reid said. “They’ve had a lot of work, a lot of work in training camp. We practice fast and hard and we have some live periods where you tackle to the ground. We just felt like we were in a good place there.”Garoppolo kept his helmet on, leading a two-minute drill that gave the 49ers a go-ahead field goal. They clung to that 13-10 halftime advantage until Chiefs backup quarterback Kyle Shurmur led a 13-play, 97-yard drive that took up most of the third quarter. Byron Pringle capped it with a short TD run as the second-year pro tries to make the Chiefs as an extra wide receiver. The 49ers answered with a 12-play drive of their own.
