Rebilas-USA TODAY SportsThe Detroit Lions 2019 schedule was released Wednesday night and of course your favorite writer had some thoughts. Here are a few instant reactions to the Lions 2019 schedule reveal:Matchups with the Packers get the spotlightBoth of Detroit’s matchups with the Green Bay Packers earned prime spots on their schedules, as the NFL shows that they still see some potential in the rivalry even after both teams had dismal 2018 seasons. Their Week 5 matchup at Lambeau Field will be on “Monday Night Football” and close out a week of NFL action. They will meet once again at Ford Field in the all-important Week 17. If both teams live up to expectations this season, then that game has potential to decide the fate of the NFC North or even serve as some sort of playoff preview. Both contests may end up as games that the entire league has an eye on, and these two matchups can help breathe life into a rivalry that had a quiet 2018.The NFL can not get enough of the Bears on Thanksgiving For the second consecutive season, the opponent in the Lions annual Thanksgiving matchup will be the Chicago Bears. It makes sense, though. Chicago is one of the bigger markets in the league, and a defense that features Khalil Mack and the Bears devastating pass rush is sure to bring in some eyes. It does feel a little underwhelming, though. Thanksgiving and Week 17 are two of the most exciting games of the season for Lions fans, but now it seems that both weeks have been locked up with annual matchups rather than a new exciting foe every year. More repeats? Cardinals to start the season againWay back in Week 1 of the 2017 season, then rookie receiver Kenny Golladay announced himself to the league with a two-touchdown performance against the Arizona Cardinals in a Lions victory. Golladay and the Lions will have a chance to impress once again to start the year, as they have been slotted to face Arizona in Week 1.The Lions and Cardinals have had a quiet rivalry over the years. In 2014, they were the top two teams in the NFC when they met in Week 11. In 2015, Matthew Stafford was benched in arguably the worst game of his career as the then winless Lions were bludgeoned at the hands of their opponents. In 2017 and 2018, Detroit came out victorious as both Darius Slay and Zach Zenner shined in the 2018 version of the match up.Arizona also has the first overall pick in the 2019 draft. Rumors say they have interest in Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray and are expected to take the Heisman trophy winner at No. 1. The quarterback’s first NFL action may come against what is shaping up to be a great Lions defense. Rough start to the seasonAfter the Cardinals in Week 1, the Lions schedule significantly ramps up in difficulty. While we do not yet know how good each team will be in 2019, we can make a few educated guesses Womens Jalen Reeves-Maybin Jersey , and those guesses tell us Detroit may have another rough start to the year. Starting in Week 2, Detroit will be matched up against three straight 2018 playoff teams in the Los Angeles Chargers, Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs. Then after a bye week, they head to Lambeau Field to face the Packers, before heading back to Ford Field to take on a tough Minnesota Vikings team that was a half-game out of the playoffs last year. The second half of the schedule sees things tone down a bit, but do not be totally surprised if we are already looking towards the 2020 draft in early November. What are some Lions’ moments that could use a look back?" NFL Open ThreadsMonday open thread: Which Lions moment could be featured on SB Nation’s Rewinder?New,50commentsWhat are some Lions’ moments that could use a look back?EDTShare this storyShare this on FacebookShare this on TwitterShareAll sharing optionsShareAll sharing options for:Monday open thread: Which Lions moment could be featured on SB Nation’s Rewinder?TwitterFacebookRedditPocketFlipboardEmailPhoto by Gregory Shamus/Getty ImagesSB Nation has been running an excellent video series titled Rewinder, where iconic moments in sports are revisited. The videos detail the events that led to that moment, putting the viewer in the mindset of a fan from that era. Their most recent NFL-based video features the Malcolm Butler interception in Super Bowl XLIX. It highlights the players and plays that helped Seattle make it to the championship game, as well as cover Butler’s transition from undrafted rookie to hero.As of now, the Detroit Lions have yet to be featured on the series, which could be a positive and a negative. On one hand, the Lions have yet to have any truly iconic moments in sports history, a lot of which is attributed to their lack of playoff success; the playoffs only serve to heighten the grandeur of a moment. On the bright side, it also means that the Lions have avoided infamy. They were not the Jets and their Butt Fumble. They did not lose the Super Bowl by a yard. They did not get walked-off by Tim Tebow in the playoffs. All in all, it could be worse for the Lions. That leads into today’s Question of the Day:Which Lions moment could be featured on Rewinder? My answer: As mentioned above Theo Riddick Jersey White , the Lions have yet to go far in the playoffs, which hurts their status. Nonetheless, I can think of three moments where the Lions really shined:1. Lions vs. Browns, 2009This was the moment that solidified Matthew Stafford as the Lions’ franchise quarterback. With a record of 1-8 heading into this game, the Lions were once again looking at another losing season. First overall pick Stafford showed guts and leadership on this game-winning drive, highlighted by him returning from injury to throw a touchdown. Sure, the Lions finished 2-14, but this was a superstar moment for the young player.2. Lions vs. Cowboys, 2013Speaking of superstar moments for Stafford, this game against the Cowboys was possibly his magnum opus. He finished this game with 488 passing yards. Calvin Johnson finished with 329 receiving yards. Despite those incredible numbers, it was the finale that made this game iconic. Marching down to the goal line, Stafford opted to go for a quarterback sneak. The twist? Nobody on either team expected this. It was exciting, it was stunning, and it was fun. The entire game is available on Youtube, and I would highly recommend re-watching it. 3. Lions vs. Cowboys, 1991Throwing back to the Lions’ last playoff victory (that hurt to write) Womens Damon Harrison Jersey , we got a vintage Barry Sanders moment. Making people miss is what Sanders did best, and on this play he made nearly the entire Cowboys defense look stupid. Despite this being one of my favorite runs of all-time, it lacks the drama to elevate it into an iconic moment. At the time, the score was 31-6 in favor of the Lions, so this incredible run was more of a nail-in-the-coffin than a game-changing play. There are also a few negative moments that could be featured, but in hindsight are mainly memorable to just Lions fans. The Lions vs. Cowboys playoff game, where a pass interference flag was controversially picked up was quite significant to Lions fans, but a lot of the national media has glossed over this event, especially in wake of the Saints getting robbed by a missed call in the playoffs this past season.Speaking of controversial calls, the Lions losing to the Seahawks in 2015 thanks to a batted ball could be featured, but once again falls into the category of being infamous just for Lions fans.Thankfully, the Lions have not had other controversial calls in their recent history. Absolutely nothing that affected the outcome of the game. Nothing that would be memorable. Nothing that would be an iconic moment in a bitter rival’s history. Nope. I cannot think of one. None whatsoever.Damn it.Your turn.Tweets from https://twitter.com/PrideOfDetroit/lists/lions-coverage
