Steelers will be fine at RG if David DeCastro’s broken hand keeps him out vs. the Chiefs You know a unit has attained an impressive pedigree backed by coaching and player development when you see a Week-2 injury report that includes a Hall of Fame quarterback https://www.thesteelerslockerroom.com/authentic-terrell-edmunds-jersey , a highly-touted cornerback and a right guard (who might be the very best in the business), but the player you’re least worried about is the right guard. The unit I’m talking about is the Steelers’ offensive line, a line that has produced multiple Pro Bowl players and is coached by a Hall of Famer. Mike Munchak is the coach of the Steelers’ offensive line, and because of his recent history of developing players of lesser pedigrees, I’m not really all that worried about Pro Bowl guard, David DeCastro, possibly missing this Sunday’s game against the Chiefs at Heinz Field with a hand fracture. History tells me I shouldn’t worry, and that’s because of guys like Alejandro Villanueva, an undrafted free agent who played tight end in college and began his pro career on the defensive side of the line of scrimmage, before being transformed into a Pro Bowl Left Tackle under Munchak’s watch. Chris Hubbard, another UDFA who started 14 games at Right Tackle during the previous two seasons and did so well, the Browns paid him big money to sign as a free agent this past offseason. For the purposes of this article, B.J. Finney is yet another UDFA who, if he gets the start against the Chiefs on Sunday, will be doing so for a third-straight season. Only this time Womens Terrell Edmunds Jersey , Finney will be switching positions and taking over for DeCastro at Right Guard, instead of for Ramon Foster on the left side. Two seasons ago, Finney filled in for Foster against Kansas City, and the Steelers rushed for 149 yards in a 43-14 victory at Heinz Field. Last year, Finney again started against the Chiefs, and Pittsburgh rushed for 194 yards in a 19-13 triumph at Arrowhead Stadium. To be fair, Finney and Company were paving the way for Le’Veon Bell and not James Conner, who’s slated to make his second-straight start in the wake of Bell’s continued holdout. But Pittsburgh’s offensive line has obviously proven to be problematic for the Chiefs’ front-seven in recent matchups. Will that mastery of the line of scrimmage continue this Sunday if DeCastro — who may now be carrying the torch as the Steelers’ best offensive lineman — isn’t around? I’m comfortable saying it will. Finney, who has also started games at center, seems destined to take over next season for Foster, whose contract is up after 2018. If there’s enough confidence in Finney to start a whole season at Left Guard, that confidence shouldn’t wane in the face of him starting one game at Right Guard. Speaking of next season, if Matt Feiler has to fill in for an injured B.J. Finney in a game or two, my confidence would still be fairly high.Heck, if Chukwuma Okorafor Terrell Edmunds Jersey White , the rookie Swing Tackle out of Western Michigan, has to start some games this season in-place of Villanueva or Marcus Gilbert, I’d be more than optimistic he’d get the job done. This is what having the very best in the business does for a fan. I’m not talking about David DeCastro. I’m talking about Mike Munchak. Missing Ben Roethlisberger might have been a problem against the Chiefs, but missing Joe Haden could still prove to be a problem against Kansas City. But the Steelers’ offensive line won’t miss a beat with B.J. Finney starting at Right Guard. The Steelers are a tale of two sides of the ball yet again for Week 10. While the defense has nobody on the injury report, the offense is looking pretty thin at running back. Four players have already been ruled out, three of which would be classified as running backs. It will be curious to see exactly how the Steelers adjust on offense with no fullback yet again. Add in the fact JuJu Smith-Schuster is questionable, the Steelers may have to make a roster move on saturday if they fear JuJu won’t be able to go. With only three spots open at most for players who are healthy scratches, look for most of them to come from the defensive side of the ball.Game StatusOut:RB Benny Snell Jr. (knee)G Ramon Foster (concussion)RB James Conner (shoulder)FB Roosevelt Nix (knee)Questionable:WR JuJu Smith-Schuster (foot)- it remains to be seen how soon Snell will be available after his knee surgery. It’s definitely not this week.G Ramon Foster- the week started off well for Foster as he got back to practice on Wednesday and was reported he expected to play this week. But some sort of setback occurred and he is out again with a concussion for the second straight week. RB James Conner- much like Foster, Conner seemed to believe he would be returning this week as he at least practiced in a limited capacity on Wednesday. But that was his lone practice for the week, so Conner will need at least a few more days before he can return. all around. Between the organization, player, and fans, we all want to see Nix on the field. Maybe on Thursday. Most Likely:QB Paxton Lynch- there would have to be a concern at the quarterback position or seven players already ruled out in order for Lynch to be active again. DL L.T. Walton- when the Steelers only had one healthy scratch in Week 6, it was still a defensive lineman who did not dress. With that standard being set, I don’t see any way Walton is active Sunday. Possibly:CB Justin Layne- with four players already ruled out Womens JuJu Smith-Schuster Jersey , and two more fairly certain inactives in Lynch and Walton, Layne is fighting with several other players to get a helmet and not be the last spot on the list. Unfortunately, unless JuJu can’t go, he’s probably number seven and won’t get a helmet. LB Robert Spillane- just promoted to the 53-man roster this week, Spillane would be used strictly to fill the void Ulysees Gilbert III left on special teams. While Layne could possibly be the player active instead, Spillane fits the mold of what would need to be filled with the loss of Gilbert. WR JuJu Smith-Schuster- since he’s on the status report as questionable, JuJu has to at least be mentioned as a possibility of being inactive. A bigger indication would be if the Steelers made a roster move for another wide receiver on Saturday rather than just having Smith-Schuster inactive. If not, chances are he will play Sunday. TE Zach Gentry- the best thing going for Gentry is so many other players on offense being out. Simply just to have more numbers as possibilities on that side of the ball, Gentry could very well get a helmet against the Rams. Unlikely: DT Isaiah Buggs- the only way he will be inactive is if Walton passed him on the depth chart. I’m not making that move until after the Steelers do. Projected Inactive List:Benny Snell JrRamon FosterJames ConnerRoosevelt NixPaxton LynchL.T. WaltonJustin LayneIt all came down to the last spot. I am banking on the fact that JuJu Smith-Schuster is going to be able to play. If so, I’d like to see Spillane get a chance to show what he can do on special teams and let the Steelers sit the rookie Layne yet again. As always, feel free to list your projected inactives in the comments below.
